Best of SE Asia

I started a conversation with my personal trainer (yep, the one I hate on a regular basis ;-) yesterday evening which made me write this post. Subject: what has been my favourite WE away since moving to Singapore?

Mmhhh the answer in 2 words was impossible to decide on, so I created categories:

Best diving:
Layang-Layang, Malaysia

Best city:
Bangkok, Thailand

Best paradise island (difficult category):
Apo, Philippines
with Boracay, Kho Pi Pi and Gili coming close behind

Best jungle:
Bukit Lawang, Sumatra, Indonesia

Best cultural trip:
Angkor, Cambodia

Best hotel:
Waka hotel near Tanah Lot temple, Bali, Indonesia

Best hike:
Me: Kinabalu because I got to the top!!!
R: Rinjani, Lombock, Indonesia

Best food and drink:
Margaret river, Australia
With  Hong Kong as a great contender as well!

Best landscape (and photo shoot):
Bromo, Java, Indonesia

I welcome the creation of new categories through your comments!

Mt Faber, one of Singapore's summits ;-)

(Post currently coming in random order to catch up with delay...)

Final part of C & S visit to Singapore: Mt Faber.

To get to this "peak" we use a new transport: the ski lift (or the eggs as the French would say!)

Ok it's really expensive for such a short trip but it's on Singapore highlight list and I still hadn't been!
Once there, we go for a walk around the top and as usual, Singapore on one side is nothing as on the other side! Here is a choice of port with huge yellow cranes, big buildings (can you spot the nose of the boat shape marina bay sands?), construction sites (on a brand new man made island) and jungle!

We also discover a design bridge: Henderson waves bridge which inspires some good photos!

To make full use of our expensive ski lift ticket, on the way back, we take it all the way to Sentosa island!

This month's photo (2)

Hello again,
15th day of the month, the day of "La photo du mois"
I'm running a bit late today (supposed to be published at 12, Paris time) and I don't think you are going to be too proud of me when you look at the photo...
Yes it was taken with my iphone in my hotel room...
I know, I could be kicked out of the group for that! I promise not to do it again.

As I'm far away from a brilliant photographer, I'll go back to what I know: talking!

So the theme of the month is "the key"
Not a great inspiration to start with but thinking about it I found a connection to the international theme of this blog as well: The more countries I live in the more I realise that we use different methods to keep things locked and safe.
So on the photo below, you will find my key to the office (Singapore, chip key), the key to my hotel room (Scotland, magnetic key), the key to the Wifi network (Scotland, internet key) but also more convential keys to the flat and my locker (Singapore, metal key!) and to finish, the funny red thing is the key to access my bank account on line (Singapore).
To do a full report I should have added my iphone which is my internet key to my french bank account (but I was using it to take the photo...) and also a funny looking calculator in which you insert your debit card which is the access to my UK bank account (but I have left it at home in Sg...)
Funny world we live in...

I hope the explanation gives me an excuse for the poor photo, I'll do better next month!

Now if you want to see beautiful photos, here is where you need to go:

When Singapore becomes Barcelona

While exploring some new corners of Singapore during C and S's recent visit, we discovered a surprising park on Sentosa island: a little bit of Gaudi spirit seems to have got lost over here!
